Gunanusa will build own cranes

JAKARTA (JP): PT Gunanusa Utama Fabricators, a private engineering manufacturing company, will build cranes for container handling under the license of the Pacific Coast Engineering Company (Paceco) of the United States.

Gunanusa President Iman Taufik told reporters after the signing of the licensing agreement between the two companies here yesterday that Gunanusa will have the right to use the brand name Gunanusa. They will build the Quayside Gantry Portainer, and the Transtainer Yard and Shipstainer Vessel cranes under the supervision of Paceco.

The cranes will be used for handling container cargo, which is in common use throughout Indonesia.

Iman said the company has injected funds amounting to Rp 3 billion (US$1.39 million) for the expansion of its factory at Bojonegara, Cilegon, West Java and for the procurement of equipment.

He said Gunanusa has to pay royalties to Paceco for the licensing, amounting to four percent of its sales.

Iman said Indonesia needs about 35 more cranes in the next five years and Gunanusa has produced 16 cranes for domestic and international markets so far.

He said there are three Indonesian companies specializing in crane construction including Gunanusa. However, Gunanusa is the only company to have an international license.(02)
