Guardians of the dreams of children affected by disaster
This is our obligation as a teaching council to provide guidance or lessons to children. Especially after this disaster, we must inspire the children.
East Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - “Sir, will we study again tomorrow, sir?”
That was the simple question uttered by the children affected by the flood and landslide disaster in East Aceh to the volunteers. That sentence managed to touch their hearts and change the plan.
At that time, the Atjeh Connection Foundation held a mobile emergency school program in various areas affected by the flood, such as Ranto Panyang Rubek, Sijudo Village, Pante Bidari, East Aceh.
The teaching and learning activities through the emergency school program were initially planned to take place once during each volunteer visit, accompanied by the distribution of medicines and the presence of medical personnel.
However, the simple and innocent request from the students affected by the flood changed the volunteers’ plans. They then tried to ensure that the teaching and learning activities in the emergency school would run regularly, solely to protect the dreams of the next generation.
The flash flood disaster that occurred in November 2025 did indeed devastate the SDN Ranto Panyang Rubek school building, but not the students’ spirit to pursue education.
A white tent stood with a sign that read “Emergency School SDN Ranto Panyang Rubek”. Replacing the role of the school building, half of which had been swept away by water and logs, leaving debris scattered on the banks of the river.
There were no partitions separating the classes, nor were there chairs to sit on. There was only a black line drawn on the whiteboard to divide the learning material between the classes.
The students sat on black tarpaulins, protected by a white tent, and used small tables which were all donations from volunteers.
The learning conditions were far from ideal, but it did not diminish the big dreams of the survivors.
Aspirations and hopes.
