Greenland Leader Rejects Trump's Idea to Send US Hospital Ship
Oslo (ANTARA) - Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said on Sunday (22/2) that the autonomous Danish territory has no interest in receiving a United States hospital ship that US President Donald Trump wishes to send to the island.
In a Facebook post, Nielsen wrote that his answer was “no, thank you,” adding that Greenland already has a public healthcare system that provides free care to its citizens, describing it as a conscious choice and a fundamental part of Greenland’s society.
Nielsen drew a comparison with the US, where visiting a doctor comes at a cost.
He said Greenland is always open to dialogue and cooperation, including with the US, but urged the American side to speak directly with Greenland “instead of” making what he described as somewhat haphazard statements on social media.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Saturday (21/2) that he was working with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry to send “a great hospital ship” to Greenland “to treat” people who are “sick.”
