Jakarta — The Director of Geopolitics at GREAT Institute, Teguh Santosa, has assessed that Indonesia’s decision to join the Board of Peace (BoP) to champion Palestinian independence is in line with the principles of the Bandung Principles.

Teguh stated that the BoP is an instrument created by UN Security Council Resolution 2803. The resolution notes that Palestinian Authority reform and Gaza reconstruction will provide a credible path towards Palestinian self-determination and independence.

Additionally, dialogue between Israel and Palestine will be established to agree upon a political horizon for peaceful and prosperous coexistence.

“This point aligns with one of the golden principles of the Bandung Principles — peaceful coexistence,” Teguh said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

“Among the critics, there are even those urging President Prabowo Subianto to withdraw Indonesia from the BoP,” Teguh added.

Critics typically claim that the BoP is an institution operating outside the international system, in other words without a UN mandate.

However, conversely, the Board of Peace is an instrument created by UN Security Council Resolution 2803, signed in November 2025.

“If we read Resolution 2803 carefully, it becomes clear to us that the BoP is infused with peace proposals submitted by various countries not only to create peace in Gaza but also to champion Palestinian independence and sovereignty,” he said.

“Indonesia’s support for Palestine should not be questioned. The Palestinian side knows and greatly respects Indonesia’s position and strategy of struggle,” he added.

Teguh cited the recent meetings between Palestine’s new ambassador Abdalfatah A.K. Alsattari with several Indonesian figures and officials, demonstrating Palestinian confidence in the strategic steps taken by President Prabowo Subianto.

“I urge those who still suspect the BoP and Indonesia’s position within it to read UN Security Council Resolution 2803 carefully again. Criticism is something we need to remind ourselves. However, to prevent it from spreading and undermining objectivity, it would be better if criticism is presented within a certain framework. Let us all read the resolution carefully again together,” he said.
