Grade fakers go on trial
BANDUNG: An elementary school teacher and a superintendent
went on trial yesterday for allegedly manipulating a student's
examination scores in order to help her enter a prestigious
junior high school.
Antara reported that the first defendant, 36-year-old Dd,
persuaded the superintendent, 56-year-old Ad, to provide him with
a blank score sheet and necessary stamps.
Dd then gave Wini Wulandari, the student, a score of 44.62;
the girl's actual score in the June, 1995, examination was 38.35.
Armed with the new score, which bore the official seal of the
subdistrict office of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Wini
got accepted at the 35 Junior High School.
"A deserving student had to lose his opportunity to enter the
school because of the scam," the prosecutor said.
The court, presided over by Judge Suardi Mahyudin, was
adjourned until next Monday. (swe)
