Grade fakers go on trial<\/p>\n
BANDUNG: An elementary school teacher and a superintendent
\nwent on trial yesterday for allegedly manipulating a student's
\nexamination scores in order to help her enter a prestigious
\njunior high school.<\/p>\n
Antara reported that the first defendant, 36-year-old Dd,
\npersuaded the superintendent, 56-year-old Ad, to provide him with
\na blank score sheet and necessary stamps.<\/p>\n
Dd then gave Wini Wulandari, the student, a score of 44.62;
\nthe girl's actual score in the June, 1995, examination was 38.35.<\/p>\n
Armed with the new score, which bore the official seal of the
\nsubdistrict office of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Wini
\ngot accepted at the 35 Junior High School.<\/p>\n
\"A deserving student had to lose his opportunity to enter the
\nschool because of the scam,\" the prosecutor said.<\/p>\n
The court, presided over by Judge Suardi Mahyudin, was
\nadjourned until next Monday. (swe)<\/p>",
