Grab Acquires Foodpanda Twin in Taiwan for Rp 10 Trillion
Grab Holdings Limited has officially acquired the delivery business of Delivery Hero SE in Taiwan, Foodpanda, in a transaction valued at US$600 million or approximately Rp10 trillion.
The agreement is a cash deal under a cash-free and debt-free scheme, marking Grab’s strategic move to enter the Taiwan market, which is also the company’s first expansion outside Southeast Asia.
The acquisition still awaits regulatory approval and is targeted to be completed in the second half of 2026.
Grab CEO Anthony Tan emphasised that this step represents a natural expansion for the company.
“This acquisition will mark Grab’s expansion into Taiwan, our ninth market and the first outside Southeast Asia,” Anthony stated in a written remark, quoted from Grab’s official website on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
He added, “We see significant opportunities to develop food delivery and grocery services here.”
From a business perspective, Foodpanda Taiwan is assessed to have strong fundamentals. This unit recorded a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of around US$1.8 billion in 2025 and has achieved profit on an adjusted EBITDA basis.
Meanwhile, Delivery Hero CEO Niklas Östberg described the transaction as a strategic step for the company. “We are pleased to reach this cash agreement, which reflects the strength and attractiveness of the business in Taiwan,” he said.
Following the acquisition, Grab will immediately have a presence in 21 cities in Taiwan. The transaction combines Grab’s AI-based products with Foodpanda’s extensive coverage in the region.
Grab also targets full platform integration, including the migration of users and partners from Foodpanda to the Grab app, to be completed in early 2027.
Financially, the transaction is expected to provide a positive contribution to Grab’s revenue in 2026, projected at US$4.04 billion to US$4.10 billion, while maintaining the adjusted EBITDA target of US$700 million to US$720 million.
