GP Ansor: Bahar bin Smith's Family Once Entrusted Rp 100 Million, but It Was Returned by the Victim
TANGGERANG, KOMPAS.com – Ketua Pimpinan Cabang (PC) Gerakan Pemuda (GP) Ansor Kota Tangerang, Midyani, revealed that the family of the suspect in the alleged assault involving Bahar bin Smith repeatedly attempted to resolve the case through the restorative justice (RJ) mechanism. According to Midyani, the efforts were made in various ways, including approaching several parties to persuade the victim to agree to reconciliation. ‘They are making strenuous efforts for restorative justice, in various ways,’ Midyani said when contacted on Thursday (5 March 2026). Midyani said the money held amounted to around Rp 100 million. However, the victim refused to accept the money because they were worried it related to the peace process. ‘At that time, the family of one of the perpetrators entrusted Rp 100 million through me to the victim. But the victim refused because they were worried it was part of the restorative justice process,’ he said. After the victim rejected the peace offer, the suspect’s family then asked that the money previously entrusted be returned. Midyani said he ultimately returned the money in full via bank transfer to serve as evidence that the funds were never used. ‘Because it was not used at all and the victim did not want to receive it, I finally returned the money by transfer,’ Midyani said. In addition, Midyani noted that the family of the perpetrator also offered a grant in the form of land intended to be used as the GP Ansor Kota Tangerang secretariat. However, the plan did not progress after the victim insisted on not settling the case through the restorative justice mechanism. ‘Indeed, from the outset they aimed to settle the case through restorative justice, but the victim insisted on continuing with the legal process,’ Midyani said. In the police-facilitated mediation, the victim was first asked to detail the material losses they had suffered. The material losses recorded in that meeting were said to be around Rp 270 million. ‘In that mediation, the losses had to be calculated first. If I’m not mistaken, around Rp 270 million,’ he said.
