Govt will keep eye on developers
JAKARTA (JP): Vice governor of government affairs Idroes said
yesterday that the city administration is currently tallying the
public and social facilities built by housing complex developers.
"The inventory will be used by the administration to take
stern measures against developers who have failed to abide by
regulations," he insisted.
Any developer licensed to build a housing complex is required
to set aside part of the area for public facilities, including
parks, sports facilities, schools and places of worship.
Apparently, the inventory is being compiled to help the city
administration force recalcitrant developers to fulfill their
obligations.
The East Jakarta mayoralty last week stopped issuing new
building permits and certificates for land appropriation to PT
Quartalintas Sembada, the developer of the Concord 2000 luxury
housing complex.
The company has set aside a 20,000-square meter plot for
public facilities but has not built anything on the land.
The East Jakarta mayoralty also decided to stop processing
building permits for PT Summarecon Agung, the giant developer
that manages the Kelapa Gading housing estate.
However, the mayoralty revoked the decision after the
developer promised to build the required facilities. (31)
