Govt will keep eye on developers<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Vice governor of government affairs Idroes said
\nyesterday that the city administration is currently tallying the
\npublic and social facilities built by housing complex developers.<\/p>\n
\"The inventory will be used by the administration to take
\nstern measures against developers who have failed to abide by
\nregulations,\" he insisted.<\/p>\n
Any developer licensed to build a housing complex is required
\nto set aside part of the area for public facilities, including
\nparks, sports facilities, schools and places of worship.<\/p>\n
Apparently, the inventory is being compiled to help the city
\nadministration force recalcitrant developers to fulfill their
\nobligations.<\/p>\n
The East Jakarta mayoralty last week stopped issuing new
\nbuilding permits and certificates for land appropriation to PT
\nQuartalintas Sembada, the developer of the Concord 2000 luxury
\nhousing complex.<\/p>\n
The company has set aside a 20,000-square meter plot for
\npublic facilities but has not built anything on the land.<\/p>\n
The East Jakarta mayoralty also decided to stop processing
\nbuilding permits for PT Summarecon Agung, the giant developer
\nthat manages the Kelapa Gading housing estate.<\/p>\n
However, the mayoralty revoked the decision after the
\ndeveloper promised to build the required facilities. (31)<\/p>",
