Mataram, (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government plans to turn Lombok island in West Nusa Tenggara into a world-class tourism destination by 2012 with the target of drawing a million tourist arrivals.

Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik made the statement here on Monday during the launching of the Visit Lombok Sumbawa 2012 by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Senggigi, Lombok, on Wednesday.

"We have made Bali one of the world`s best tourist islands and after 2012 it will be the turn of Lombok Island," he said.

The minister admitted that it was not easy to make the region to be one of the world`s best tourist destinations.

He said five requirements had to be met by a region if it wanted to be a world class tourist destination.

Among the requirements were a good natural landscape, avaiability of human resources and cultural richness.

He said Lombok like Bali also had amazing natural landscape and also cultural richness.

Regarding human resources the minister said that "it is our task to develop them. It will be a hard task and therefore we must work hard for it." (*)
