Govt to form anti-trafficking team

JAKARTA: The government said on Friday that it would form a national committee to tackle women and child trafficking problems in the country.

State Minister of Women's Empowerment Sri Redjeki Sumaryoto said that the committee would handle cases like baby peddling or sexual exploitation of the country's female migrant workers.

She said that in the past year, her office had received 281 reports of violations of children and women's rights such as physical abuse, rape, sexual harassment, child trafficking and child labor.

Members of the committee would include representatives of the Indonesian Military and National Police, the Attorney General's Office, the immigration office and other related institutions.

The committee would be overseen by the office of the coordinating minister for peoples' welfare. --Antara
