Govt still debating salary hike

JAKARTA: The government has yet to decide on the planned salary increase for civil servants next year as related authorities are still making calculations, a minister said.

"We are still discussing the increase," State Minister of Administrative Reforms Taufik Effendi said on Wednesday.

Starting next year, the lowest salary for civil servants will be raised to at least Rp 1 million (about US$100) per month, slightly higher than the minimum regional wage in the manufacturing sector of Rp 800,000, Taufik said.

The government has announced a plan to raise the salary of civil servants next year in a bid to help improve their welfare as well as to help prevent corruption. -- JP
