Govt reaches 91% of tax revenue target by end November

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The government had met 91.45 percent of its tax revenue target as at the end of November, a senior official of the Ministry of Finance said on Friday.

Director General of Tax Hadi Purnomo said that during the eleven-month period until the end of November, tax revenue had reached Rp 143.181 trillion (about US$14.18 billion), compared to the budget target of Rp 156.654 trillion for the whole year.

Hadi was quoted by Antara as saying that the figures included income tax in foreign currencies, which amounted to Rp 2.432 trillion.

He said income tax from the oil and gas sector during the period had exceeded the initial target by Rp 774.7 billion, while revenue from value added tax and luxury tax had exceeded the target by Rp 193.7 billion.

He did not specify the targets.

Income tax revenue from the non-oil and gas sector was Rp 865.7 billion lower than the target for the period, while revenue from land and building tax and land and building title acquisition fees was Rp 30.30 billion below the target, according to Hadi.

Officials from the directorate have on several occasions expressed optimism that the budget's tax revenue target would be met, and perhaps even exceeded.

For next year's budget, the government has targeted collecting Rp 184.675 trillion in tax revenue, including Rp 104.497 trillion in income tax, Rp 70.099 trillion in value added tax and luxury tax, Rp 5.9 trillion in land and building tax and Rp 2.205 trillion in land and building title acquisition fees, and Rp 1.949 trillion in other taxes.
