Govt does not protect women
Govt does not protect women
From Kompas
I agree with Julia Suryakusuma in her article published in Kompas of Sept. 27 under the title of Government regulation No. 10, an effective weapon or an instrument of power? because in reality this government regulation does not protect the wives of civil servants and members of the Indonesian military/police.
Let me cite my own experience when I was a unit commander. The wife of one of my subordinates reported to me that her husband had an affair with another woman. I called the person and he admitted to having the affair.
Then I gave him two options: to stay in the service or have two wives. He opted for an early retirement.
Ironically, after leaving the military service, he divorced his first wife, who afterwards did not get any money at all because the pension was collected by her former husband.
May this small example be taken into account by those drafting the revision of Government Regulation No. 10 because the goal of this government regulation is to protect women.
