Gov't acts on bus fare violators

Jakarta (JP): The Director General of Land Transportation Soejono imposed sanctions on the owners of 164 buses.

He said the owners had violated a government rule on bus fare increases during the Idul Fitri holiday.

"The number of violators have increased since last year," Soejono said yesterday, Antara reported.

In one province, for instance, the Ministry of Transportation has imposed sanctions on 140 buses and 88 bus companies, compared with 78 buses and 55 companies last year.

The sanctions, effective from April 8, are "administrative," which Soejono said consist mainly of operating permits being temporarily terminated and the suspension of rights to add bus routes.

He added the sanctions were based on reports from the public, provincial ministry offices and provincial land transport agencies. (anr)
