Governor's policy
Governor's policy
From Warta Kota
As a citizen of Jakarta, I am very much concerned about and
disappointed at the statements and comments of Jakarta governor
Sutiyoso and his policies as reflected in his attitude in
anticipating floods in Jakarta and in overcoming problems created
by the floods.
In my capacity as commission A chairman of the Subdistrict
Council (Dewan Kelurahan) in Penjaringan (North Jakarta) and as a
coordinator of the flood monitoring post (Posko) for Penjaringan
and the surrounding areas, I would like to forward my views as
follows:
1) God and the environment are not to blame for the floods which
have inundated most of Jakarta. We should seek out those
responsible for the mistaken policy that has brought about the
disaster.
2) Subdistricts (kelurahan) in Jakarta have different sizes of
area and population, so the allocation of Rp 50 million for every
flooded subdistrict by the Jakarta administration will only pose
a problem for members of the subdistrict councils and activists
of the neighborhood administrative units.
3) I remind all members of subdistrict councils throughout
Jakarta that as representatives of the people in subdistricts
they should study and analyze the impacts of policies adopted by
the Jakarta administration.
4) As a member of Penjaringan Subdistrict Council, I must not act
as an "errand boy" of the Jakarta governor. I have only to strive
to protect the rights of people in Penjaringan subdistrict
instead of supporting the policies of the Jakarta administration.
