As a citizen of Jakarta, I am very much concerned about and
\ndisappointed at the statements and comments of Jakarta governor
\nSutiyoso and his policies as reflected in his attitude in
\nanticipating floods in Jakarta and in overcoming problems created
\nby the floods.<\/p>\n
In my capacity as commission A chairman of the Subdistrict
\nCouncil (Dewan Kelurahan) in Penjaringan (North Jakarta) and as a
\ncoordinator of the flood monitoring post (Posko) for Penjaringan
\nand the surrounding areas, I would like to forward my views as
\nfollows:
\n1) God and the environment are not to blame for the floods which
\nhave inundated most of Jakarta. We should seek out those
\nresponsible for the mistaken policy that has brought about the
\ndisaster.
\n2) Subdistricts (kelurahan) in Jakarta have different sizes of
\narea and population, so the allocation of Rp 50 million for every
\nflooded subdistrict by the Jakarta administration will only pose
\na problem for members of the subdistrict councils and activists
\nof the neighborhood administrative units.
\n3) I remind all members of subdistrict councils throughout
\nJakarta that as representatives of the people in subdistricts
\nthey should study and analyze the impacts of policies adopted by
\nthe Jakarta administration.
\n4) As a member of Penjaringan Subdistrict Council, I must not act
\nas an \"errand boy\" of the Jakarta governor. I have only to strive
\nto protect the rights of people in Penjaringan subdistrict
\ninstead of supporting the policies of the Jakarta administration.<\/p>\n
