Governor Pramono inaugurates revitalised Sarinah pedestrian bridge, Pelican crossing remains operational
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has inaugurated the newly revitalised Sarinah pedestrian overpass (JPO), describing it as now disability-friendly. During a site inspection on Monday, 2 March 2026, the completed revitalisation works revealed that the JPO is accessed via lift, with the Pelican crossing remaining operational for crossing or accessing the Thamrin Transjakarta Bus Stop.
“This JPO is the first one owned by Jakarta. It was precisely inaugurated by Ali Sadikin on 21 April 1968. This is certainly historic and today we are carrying out revitalisation to make this JPO disability-friendly,” Pramono told reporters following his direct inspection of the Sarinah JPO in Central Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Pramono stated that the public can access the JPO Sarinah lift, with priority given to persons with disabilities. “Everyone has a choice. Whether they want to use the lift or use the Pelican crossing which we continue to operate. In this way, people who like to walk will have the option to cross, but those with special needs or disabilities can benefit from this,” he explained.
Pramono further noted that the pedestrian area in front of Sarinah will be widened by 2.6 metres. He expressed his desire for Sarinah to be more accessible to greater numbers of people. “Because Sarinah is a heritage site. In this way, people’s choice to shop or visit Sarinah will become increasingly easy. That is what we wish to convey,” he said.
