Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, along with Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri and Jaya Military Commander Major General TNI Deddy Suryadi, attended the Cap Go Meh celebration at Pancoran Chinatown in Glodok, West Jakarta. The event also included Deputy Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Protection Veronika Tan, former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, Deputy Minister for Creative Economy Irene Umar, and former Governors Fauzi Bowo and Sutiyoso, along with other provincial officials.

The ceremony featured various entertainment, including lion dance and ondel-ondel performances. In his remarks, Pramono emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony and diversity, which he described as Jakarta’s greatest strength.

“Lunar New Year celebrations have never been this festive. Whether held at Lapangan Banteng, Bundaran HI, the SCBD, or shopping centres, we feel that the harmonious coexistence of diverse communities in Jakarta is truly excellent,” Pramono said.

Pramono praised the organisers and committee members for their efforts and acknowledged the significant contributions of the Chinese community to Jakarta’s development. He noted that the transition from Lunar New Year celebrations to Ramadan this year proceeded smoothly, with Lunar New Year decorations being orderly replaced in preparation for the holy month, maintaining religious balance in the capital.

Pramono also highlighted Glodok’s potential as a historical and cultural tourism destination, particularly with the planned public transport development connecting the Old City to the National Monument.

He reminded attendees that Lunar New Year and Cap Go Meh celebrations in Indonesia are possible due to past government policies. Pramono credited the fourth President Abdurrahman Wahid for repealing the prohibition on Lunar New Year celebrations and the fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri for establishing Lunar New Year as a national holiday.

“Because of this, today we can celebrate Cap Go Meh openly and festively as we do now,” he said.

Pramono concluded by expressing hope that the 2026 Cap Go Meh celebration would bring good fortune, peace and prosperity to all Jakarta residents. “Happy Cap Go Meh 2026. May this celebration bring peace, happiness, health and good fortune to us all. Gong xi fa cai, xin nian kuai le,” he said.
