Palangka Raya (ANTARA) - Central Kalimantan Governor Agustiar Sabran stated that one of his administration’s priorities in developing the tourism sector in the province is to optimise Tanjung Puting National Park.

“The existence of adequate infrastructure supports the comfort and smoothness of tourism activities, which also plays an important role in Central Kalimantan’s economy,” he said in Palangka Raya on Thursday.

According to him, the various facilities available are already quite good, but still require improvements. Therefore, his side continues to coordinate further with the ministry overseeing Tanjung Puting National Park.

The Central Kalimantan provincial government is committed to supporting the development of the Tanjung Puting area. Moreover, this national park has extraordinary appeal to foreign tourists, making its presence very strategic in accelerating tourism development in Central Kalimantan.

Agustiar and his team recently inspected the Tanjung Puting National Park area in West Kotawaringin Regency yesterday. This activity is part of the governor’s working visit as concrete support for the tourism sector.

Central Kalimantan’s tourism sector is considered highly potential as one of the driving factors for regional economic growth.

In several opportunities visiting Tanjung Puting National Park, Agustiar emphasised his main focus on ensuring the comfort of tourists visiting Tanjung Puting National Park as a flagship destination in Central Kalimantan.

One of the concerns is the service facilities, which are expected to be adequate for tourists staying overnight on boats, and should continue to be improved. He requested that these facilities meet tourist comfort standards.

Furthermore, the governor and others also inspected the ferry dock and the through road from Sei Badaun Village to Sei Sekonyer Village, including the Tanjung Puting National Park area in Kumai Subdistrict.

The countries of origin of the most foreign visitors are Spain with 24,037 people, followed by Germany with 6,361 people, the USA with 6,106 people, and others.

The Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) states that the Tanjung Puting National Park area is the first conservation area in Indonesia to protect the orangutan species. In addition to orangutans, there are also key species such as proboscis monkeys and scaly turtles.

To see these species, visitors are also presented with natural beauty by passing through the Sekonyer River and greeted with nipah vegetation formations.
