Governor installs new regent in Buton

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Southeast Sulawesi Governor La
Ode Kaimoeddin installed La Ode Muh. Syafe'i Kahar and Kasim on
Sunday as Buton regent and deputy regent respectively in the
regency capital of Baubau.

Sjafe'i Kahar was nominated by the United Development Party
faction of the regency legislature. As a career official of the
agriculture ministry, he was previously deputy head of the local
office of fisheries and marine resources.

Kasim, a native of Buton proposed by the same faction, is a
constitutional law expert whose most recent position was as head
of the personnel department in the Maluku national education
office in Ambon.

The governor in his inaugural message stressed the importance
of avoiding over indulgence in the euphoria of regional autonomy,
which could lead to distortions and actions beyond the limits of
