The government has confirmed it has agreed on a plan to increase the Maximum Retail Price (HET) for MinyaKita, following ongoing fluctuations in the price of crude palm oil (CPO) in recent times. Although the scale of the increase has not yet been set, signals of a change in the price of the people’s cooking oil are expected to be decided within one to two weeks after the government ensures raw material price conditions are more stable. Trade Minister Budi Santoso said the decision was the result of joint discussions during a coordination meeting led by the Coordinating Ministry for Food. “Following up on the previous meeting in the Coordinating Minister for Food’s Rapor at the Coordinating Ministry for Food office. So today we agreed to raise the maximum retail price for MinyaKita,” Budi Santoso said at the Ministry of Trade office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 4 June 2026. According to Budi, the government has not yet determined the exact figure for the increase because it is still monitoring the development of CPO prices, which are the main cost component forming cooking oil prices. “Indeed, the price has not yet been agreed upon and when it will be determined for the stipulation. Because we want to see the development of CPO prices again,” he said. The government noted that the CPO price had previously surged to an average of Rp15,445 per kilogram before experiencing a correction. However, the price movement remains volatile, causing the government to postpone setting the new MinyaKita HET figure. “Indeed, the CPO price rose yesterday to an average of Rp15,445, but yesterday it fell again to around Rp14,000,” said Budi. Besides the CPO price, the government is also monitoring the development of fresh fruit bunch prices, which are one indicator of the national palm oil industry’s condition. “And yesterday the fresh fruit bunch price also fell, but now it has started to rise again,” he said. Budi stressed the government does not want to rush into setting a new price before obtaining a clearer picture regarding raw material price trends in the market. “So we will see the price stabilise, after that we will determine what the figure will be for the increase in the maximum retail price for MinyaKita,” he said. Nevertheless, the government’s policy direction is clear. The adjustment of the MinyaKita price is just waiting for the right momentum when the CPO price is in a condition considered normal and stable.
