The government is preparing a large-capacity solar power plant (PLTS) project to reach villages across Indonesia. In the initial phase, the project will be prioritised in areas that already have electricity distribution networks. “Initially from the proposal of 100 gigawatts, but the first priority will be around 13 gigawatts. Especially in areas that already have electricity distribution,” said Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM and also Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, on Thursday, 5 March 2026. He explained that the government actually plans to build PLTS in all villages. However, its implementation will be staged, taking into account the readiness of supporting infrastructure in each region. He said accelerating the development of PLTS is part of the government’s effort to expand the use of renewable energy. The programme is also expected to reach remote areas that have previously had limited access to energy. “We are preparing this with human resources and can speed it up. Incidentally, Danantara already has a prototype for building this PLTS in the Sumenep area, which has just been completed at 1 megawatt,” Rosan said. In addition, the government is preparing various supports to speed up the project. These include readiness of technology and adequate funding schemes. Rosan added that the President has directed the acceleration of PLTS construction with various financing options. The government also opens opportunities for cooperation with domestic and private parties that have solar and battery technology. “The President has given the directive that this development can be accelerated with several funding options, in cooperation with domestic and private parties that have the solar and battery technology,” he said. The PLTS development programme is expected to be one of the important steps in accelerating the national energy transition. In addition, the project is also expected to expand access to clean energy for communities in various regions of Indonesia.
