JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The government will evaluate the deployment of TNI personnel as peacekeepers with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) following the deaths of three TNI soldiers in southern Lebanon. Minister for State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi stated that various phenomena of concern to Indonesia, as expressed by Foreign Minister (Menlu) Sugiono, will be evaluated. “Yes, (the deployment of peacekeepers) will certainly be evaluated. That’s why what Mr Menlu conveyed is also part of the evaluation process,” Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026). On the other hand, Prasetyo mentioned that the withdrawal of Indonesian troops from Lebanon will depend on the results of the evaluation first. “Well, we’ll see the results first,” Prasetyo stated. The first incident occurred after the Indonesian contingent came under artillery fire near Adchit Al Qusayr in southern Lebanon on Sunday (29/3/2026). One soldier, Private Second Class Farizal Rhomadhon, died as a result of the attack. The two other soldiers were killed the following day on Monday (30/3/2026) after the convoy they were escorting was attacked. They were Captain Infantry Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant First Class Muhammad Nur Ichwan. Meanwhile, five other soldiers were injured. They were First Lieutenant Infantry Sulthan Wirdean Maulana, Corporal Deni Rianto, Corporal Rico Pramudia, Corporal Bayu Prakoso, and Corporal Arif Kurniawan. Most recently, UNIFIL reported that three Indonesian peacekeepers were injured again due to an explosion in El Addaiseh, southern Lebanon, on Friday (3/4/2025).
