Government to Build Eight Retention Ponds to Control Flooding in Bogor and Bekasi
A number of measures are being undertaken to control flooding along the Cileungsi and Cikeas river basins in West Java. The rivers flow through the Bogor and Bekasi areas.
Puarman, chairman of KP2C (the Cileungsi-Cikeas River Care Community), said that in addition to river normalisation, the Ministry of Public Works plans to build eight retention ponds.
“The retention ponds would be capable of holding approximately 6.3 million cubic metres of water,” Puarman said on Friday (20/2/2026).
According to him, four of the proposed ponds would be particularly effective in controlling flooding. Two sites are located in Bogor Regency, specifically at Tlajung Uduk 1 and Tlajung Uduk 2.
“These would be capable of holding 2.6 million cubic metres of water,” he explained.
A further pond would be located in Bantar Gebang Sub-district, Bekasi City, with a capacity of 1 million cubic metres.
“And at Kemang Pratama in Rawa Lumbu Sub-district, also in Bekasi City, with a capacity of 2 million cubic metres,” he added.
Puarman called for the construction of the retention ponds to be expedited, as they could significantly reduce the impact of frequent flooding in the area.
“The Bantar Gebang Retention Pond and the Kemang Pratama Long Storage facility in Bekasi City should also be built promptly thereafter. We can learn from the successful flood control efforts on 11 February 2026, which were triggered by rising water levels in the Cileungsi River,” he concluded.
