The government is targeting employment social security protection coverage to reach 99.5 percent of workers in Indonesia. This target includes poor workers, extremely poor individuals, and vulnerable groups. Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar emphasised that the employment social security programme represents the state’s commitment to protecting workers from various social risks and economic pressures. “Vulnerable workers face very high socio-economic risks. If they experience a workplace accident or pass away, their families are at risk of falling into new poverty,” said Cak Imin in Jakarta on Friday (8/5/2026). “Therefore, the employment social security programme serves as an important safety net to sustain their families’ livelihoods,” he continued. “The presence of employment social security ensures that workers’ families can continue living decently,” he added. Currently, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has protected around 47.4 million workers. Of these, 6.7 million are vulnerable workers covered through regional budgets (APBD), village budgets (APBDes), the SERTAKAN Programme, stakeholder collaborations, and support from Profit-Sharing Funds (DBH). BPJS Ketenagakerjaan President Director Saiful Hidayat appreciated the recipients of the Paritrana award. He also stressed the importance of cross-sector collaboration to expand employment social security protection. According to Saiful, protecting vulnerable workers cannot be done partially. The programme requires a collective effort from all stakeholders. “BPJS Ketenagakerjaan invites all regional governments, business entities, and other stakeholders to collaborate in the Movement to Protect 10 Million Vulnerable Workers,” said Saiful. “We invite ministries and agencies, regional heads, and all related parties to join the Movement for 10 Million Protected Vulnerable Workers. This movement is part of strengthening national social protection,” he continued. These steps are being taken through regulatory strengthening and appeals from regional governments. Socialisation of employment social security is also being expanded to the community level through religious organisations, community leaders, neighbourhood associations (RT/RW), and various other social networks.
