Government Targets Export of 50,000 Tonnes of Rice to Saudi Arabia
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman has targeted rice exports to Saudi Arabia to reach 20,000 to 50,000 tonnes in 2026. He made the statement after attending the ceremony for the release of 2,280 tonnes of rice by PT Perum Bulog for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. ‘The target is 20,000 to 50,000 tonnes,’ Amran said when asked at the Bulog Warehouse Complex for the DKI & Banten regional offices, North Jakarta, on Wednesday (4 February 2026). The government sees this figure as a market potential for Bulog rice. Because Indonesian pilgrims tend to prefer rice from home that is sticky. The government hopes the 20,000 to 50,000 tonnes of rice could be realised this year. ‘Hopefully this year. The rice is ready whenever asked, the rice is ready,’ Amran said. In addition to Saudi Arabia, the government is also targeting exports to nearby countries such as Malaysia, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea. According to him, the stockpile of the Government Rice Reserve (CBP) in Bulog warehouses currently reaches 3.7 million tonnes and is projected to increase to 5 million tonnes by April. ‘Well, our warehouses are somewhat difficult to accommodate because the warehouse capacity is only 3 million tonnes,’ Amran said. The rice has a broken rate below 5 percent with a moisture content of 14 percent. ‘In our view this is a super premium rice that Bulog has produced,’ said Rizal.
