Government Strengthens Commitment to IKN Continuity, Vice President's Special Staff Meets Jokowi to Discuss Acceleration
The government continues to strengthen its commitment to the continuity of the development of the Nusantara Capital (IKN) as Indonesia’s new administrative centre. This is reflected in the meeting between Vice President’s Special Staff (Stafsus Wapres) Tina Talisa and the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo in Solo, Central Java, on Wednesday (25/3/2026), which also discussed the progress of this national strategic project. Tina stated that she, along with Suwardi, represented the Vice President’s Special Staff in meeting directly with Jokowi. The meeting covered the development of IKN construction and the government’s steps to ensure the project’s continuity. “Earlier, I also discussed IKN with Mr Jokowi. My last visit to IKN was on 21 January 2026 as a follow-up to the Vice President’s directive to encourage us from the Vice President’s Secretariat to take turns working in the IKN area,” said Tina after the meeting. She explained that the initiative of assigning staff to work on a rotational basis in the IKN area is part of efforts to accelerate the transition of the administrative centre. According to her, the direct presence of government elements in the area demonstrates seriousness in ensuring the development proceeds according to plan. The government previously assured that IKN development would continue, even be accelerated, with budget support of Rp48.8 trillion for the 2025–2029 period. This fiscal support serves as a strong signal that the IKN project remains a national strategic priority in the medium term. In addition to discussing IKN, Jokowi also conveyed a message regarding the importance of maintaining unity and harmony as the foundation of national stability, especially in ensuring the continuity of long-term development programmes. “His message is that we all continue to maintain unity, harmony, and hopefully we are all always healthy in body and soul, that is the most important thing,” said Tina. She added that synergy among government elements is a key factor in maintaining the consistency of national development direction, including ensuring that IKN can function optimally as Indonesia’s new administrative centre.
