Government States Fuel Prices Will Not Rise Tomorrow, Pertamina's Reaction
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Deputy Speaker of Parliament from the Gerindra Faction, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, announced that the government will not raise the prices of subsidised and non-subsidised Fuel Oil (BBM) tomorrow, Wednesday, 1 April 2026.
He made this statement during a press conference today, Tuesday (31/3/2026), at the Parliament Building.
This declaration was emphasised following information that the public has begun panic buying or flocking to various petrol stations due to speculation of a fuel price hike on 1 April 2026. He noted that this panic buying has caused long queues at several petrol stations.
“Just now, the Minister of State Secretary announced on behalf of the government that the government has no plans to adjust the prices of subsidised BBM or non-subsidised BBM, amid rumours circulating in society about an adjustment on 1 April tomorrow,” Dasco stated.
Therefore, he stressed that with this reaffirmation, the public does not need to flock to petrol stations to buy BBM, especially in quantities beyond their needs just to stockpile.
“This means that starting tomorrow, the same prices will apply, so the public does not need to panic, does not need to queue, and especially not to hoard BBM,” Dasco said.
Previously, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi also made a similar statement. He assured that there will be no increase in the prices of subsidised and non-subsidised BBM tomorrow, 1 April 2026.
“So, we need to convey that after coordination in this matter between the government and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources together with Pertamina, and on the instructions of the President. The President always prioritises the interests of the people and society in making decisions,” Prasetyo said in a press statement, Tuesday (31/3/2026).
“That is why Pertamina states that Pertamina will not adjust prices for either subsidised BBM or non-subsidised BBM,” the politician from the Great Indonesia Movement Party continued.
So, what is the response of PT Pertamina (Persero) to that statement?
VP Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Muhammad Baron, said that his side will follow up on the statement.
“We at Pertamina certainly appreciate and communicate with the government regarding BBM prices. The directives conveyed by the government will be followed up in our operations at Pertamina,” he revealed in Jakarta, Tuesday (31/3/2026).
