JAKARTA — The government is preparing around 30 hectares of land for housing for the people as part of accelerating the 3 Million Homes Programme. The land is a land grant from the Lippo Group and is estimated to be capable of housing up to around 140,000 apartment units.

Minister for Housing and Settlement Affairs Maruarar Sirait said the potential development was calculated based on studies by the government team together with developer partners. ‘From the team’s assessment, with around 30 hectares of land we could roughly build around 140,000 units,’ Sirait said at the event supporting the President’s Priority Programme 3 Million Homes in Cikarang, West Java on Sunday 8 March 2026.

According to Ara, vertical housing in urban areas is seen as a solution to overcome land constraints in urban areas while also reducing the housing backlog. He added the project involves multiple parties, including the government, investors, and state-owned enterprises through a range of financing schemes. He said land for the housing programme can come from various sources, including state land, land owned by Danantara, and private land. Financing can also come from various sources.

Besides the project on the 30-hectare site, the government is also preparing to develop additional housing in other locations. One such location is in the Depok area, with potential land area of around 45 hectares, currently in coordination with the local government.

Ara said accelerating housing construction requires cross-ministerial cooperation, local government, and the private sector to achieve the housing programme’s target.

According to Ara, vertical housing development in urban areas is expected to be a solution for low-income households (MBR) needing affordable homes near activity hubs.

Attending the event were Special Presidential Envoy and Head of the Housing Task Force Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Danantara Indonesia CEO Rosan Roeslani, Pelita Harapan Foundation founder James Riady, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Chairman Anindya Bakrie, Ministry of Finance Director General of State Wealth Rionald Silaban, West Java Provincial Secretary Herman Suryatman, Bekasi Acting Regent Asep Surya Atmaja, and Depok Mayor Mohammad Supian Suri.
