Government revokes Jambi's approval
JAMBI (Antara): The Indonesian government has revoked its
approval of a Malaysian company's investment in a 27,000-hectare
oil palm plantation in Tanjung Jabung district, Jambi province.
The revocation of the approval for the investment became
effective early this year, head of the provincial plantations
office, Amrie Ramli, said here Friday.
He declined to name the Malaysian company.
He however assured that this will not have any direct impact
on the development of other commercial crops in the province.
Jambi has some 260,481 hectares of plantations, most of which
are planted with oil palms.
Some 103,000 hectares have been allotted for joint ventures
between Indonesian and foreign businessmen.
In recent years however, foreign investors' interests have
increased.
Ramli expressed hope that with limited foreign investments in
the province's oil palm plantations, Indonesian investors would
have more chance to take part in Jambi's development.
