Government revokes Jambi's approval<\/p>\n
JAMBI (Antara): The Indonesian government has revoked its
\napproval of a Malaysian company's investment in a 27,000-hectare
\noil palm plantation in Tanjung Jabung district, Jambi province.<\/p>\n
The revocation of the approval for the investment became
\neffective early this year, head of the provincial plantations
\noffice, Amrie Ramli, said here Friday.<\/p>\n
He declined to name the Malaysian company.<\/p>\n
He however assured that this will not have any direct impact
\non the development of other commercial crops in the province.<\/p>\n
Jambi has some 260,481 hectares of plantations, most of which
\nare planted with oil palms.<\/p>\n
Some 103,000 hectares have been allotted for joint ventures
\nbetween Indonesian and foreign businessmen.<\/p>\n
In recent years however, foreign investors' interests have
\nincreased.<\/p>\n
Ramli expressed hope that with limited foreign investments in
\nthe province's oil palm plantations, Indonesian investors would
\nhave more chance to take part in Jambi's development.<\/p>",
