Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has announced a new policy aimed at promoting changes in work culture and societal lifestyles as part of the national transformation to address global geopolitical dynamics.

In the announcement of the national work culture transformation and energy policy, conducted online via video conference monitored from Jakarta on Tuesday, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that the current global situation demands that all countries, including Indonesia, adapt through efficiency measures and changes in societal activity patterns.

According to him, this momentum presents an opportunity for all elements of society to begin optimising work methods, mobility patterns, and energy use in daily life.

“We are starting to change our culture and transform forward to face the geopolitics that indeed affect all countries in the world,” said Prasetyo.

He emphasised that the transformation includes changes in public transportation habits to reduce fuel oil (BBM) consumption, while enhancing national energy resilience.

Prasetyo added that the government also appreciates various local government initiatives that have previously promoted energy-friendly mobility culture changes, one of which is encouraging the use of bicycles to commute to work.

The State Secretary hopes that similar initiatives can be followed by other regions in Indonesia as part of a collective movement towards energy efficiency, work culture transformation, and national preparedness in facing future geopolitical challenges.

“We all appreciate the initiatives from provincial and regency governments, for example, by starting to promote a culture of cycling to the workplace. In addition to reducing energy and BBM consumption, this certainly also brings benefits for health and fitness. Hopefully, these initiatives can be followed by other regions,” he added.

Previously, the government officially implemented a work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the policy will take effect from 1 April 2026 and will be evaluated after two months of implementation.

Airlangga detailed that several sectors are exempt from this WFH policy. These sectors include public services such as health, security, and cleanliness, as well as strategic sectors like industry, energy, water, basic commodities, food and beverages, trade, transportation, logistics, and finance.

Furthermore, to enhance mobility efficiency, the government is limiting the use of official vehicles to 50%, except for operational needs and electric vehicles.

In addition, domestic official travel is reduced by 50% and international travel by 70%.
