Government Prepares 2-3 Month Transition Period for Deactivation of JKN Subsidised Health Insurance Recipients
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf has stated that the government is preparing a transition mechanism lasting two to three months before the deactivation of Subsidised National Health Insurance (PBI-JKN) memberships takes effect, in order to ensure healthcare services continue uninterrupted.
During a restricted meeting with the Health Minister, the Coordinating Minister for Human Empowerment, and the head of the BPJS Kesehatan national health insurer in Jakarta on Monday, Minister Saifullah Yusuf said the mechanism would be set out in a circular letter or joint decree to serve as guidance for healthcare facilities.
The policy has been drawn up to address concerns from healthcare facilities regarding the financing of patients whose data is still being updated.
Under this scheme, data updating can proceed simultaneously with the continuation of healthcare services, thereby safeguarding the public’s right to healthcare access.
The Ministry of Social Affairs previously reported that more than 11 million PBI-JKN participants are currently having their eligibility re-verified by officers from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), social welfare workers, and local governments over the next two months.
The membership data updating forms part of the transformation towards the National Socio-Economic Unified Database (DTSEN) managed by BPS, in accordance with Presidential Instruction Letter No. 4/2025.
The Ministry of Social Affairs has confirmed that the PBI budget will neither be reduced nor reallocated, whilst the core principle of the policy remains ensuring the continuity of healthcare services for eligible members, from a national total of 96.8 million BPJS beneficiaries in the PBI-JKN segment.
