Jakarta – The Ministry of Transport is preparing 177 terminals and dozens of rest areas across various regions to strengthen land transport services and support the smooth flow of Eid holiday travel for 1447 Hijri.

“We are preparing road transport facilities and infrastructure consisting of 177 terminals divided into 115 Type A and 62 Type B terminals, as well as 48 UPPKB (Motor Vehicle Weighing Implementation Units) functioning as rest areas,” said Aan Suhanan, Director General of Land Transport at the Ministry of Transport, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

In addition, the Ministry of Transport is working with the Ministry of Religious Affairs to designate 115 mosque locations and public facilities as temporary rest points. Beyond the UPPKB units converted into rest areas, the ministry is coordinating with police and local governments to establish several mosques as rest areas in Tegal City, Tegal Regency, Pekalongan City, Batang Regency, Kendal Regency, Semarang, Purworejo and Kebumen.

“Registration will commence on 1 March 2026,” he said.

Aan stated that to support the organisation of Eid holiday transport, the ministry is preparing a strategy to anticipate population movement, particularly those using land transport during this period. To support public mobility, the Ministry of Transport is also coordinating with the National Police Traffic Corps and the Ministry of Public Works to issue a Joint Ministerial Decree covering restrictions on freight transport operations.

“We are currently undertaking public socialisation,” he said.

He stressed that the policy restricting freight transport operations is being implemented to protect the safety of millions of travellers during the Eid exodus and ensure journeys are smooth, safe and comfortable. “The aim is not to restrict or prohibit business, but to regulate so that public mobility and goods distribution can both proceed safely and smoothly during the Eid travel period,” Aan added.

According to him, the measure is being taken to alleviate congestion, mitigate accidents and accommodate the movement of public transport and logistics. “Beyond merely mobility, the Ministry of Transport views the 2026 exodus as a strategic economic opportunity. The movement of 143.9 million travellers represents a significant opportunity for the tourism, culinary and MSME sectors in destination areas,” he said.

The ministry is also promoting the establishment of a Single National Eid Transport Control Command under the Ministry of Transport’s direction. Meanwhile, Ashma Nur Afifa, Head of Researcher at KedaiKOPI Survey Institute, stated that the free travel programme conducted by various parties, including the Ministry of Transport, is highly anticipated by the public.

This was determined through an online survey. The questionnaire was distributed to 1,053 Indonesian citizens aged 17–55 years between 26 February and 7 March 2026. “Public interest in the free travel programme is substantial, with approximately 53.3 per cent of respondents interested in participating in free travel. Public interest in the free travel programme has also surged compared to last year,” she said.
