The Indonesian government is implementing a free health screening (CKG) programme for bus drivers ahead of the Lebaran 2026 exodus season.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno stated that the measure was being taken to reduce accident rates. “One issue we are treating very seriously, which is being overseen by the Ministry of Health, is free health screening for bus drivers,” Pratikno said at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs office in Jakarta on Wednesday (11 March).

Pratikno explained that drivers whose health screening results are satisfactory will be authorised to drive. Those whose results are unsatisfactory will receive treatment until they meet the safety requirements for driving.

“So if they are fit, they will be given permission, but if they are unfit, they will not meet the requirements and will receive treatment until they meet the safety standards for driving,” he said.

Pratikno also stated that the health screening programme for bus drivers is conducted two weeks before they operate their routes. This timeframe allows any identified health problems to be treated promptly.

He reported that so far 338 bus drivers from 18 bus operator pools at terminals in Central Java and West Java have participated in the health screening.

“In addition to screening, blood pressure, blood sugar, alcohol testing, and testing for narcotics, psychotropic substances, and other addictive substances are performed,” Pratikno said.
