The government has established one day of work from home (WFH) as a measure to save fuel oil amid the impact of the war in the Middle East. When will the government announce the WFH day? “Basically, it has been set this week,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto after accompanying President Prabowo Subianto in receiving US businessman Ray Dalio at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Friday (27/3/2026). Airlangga stated that the government will soon announce the WFH day for government employees. Airlangga assessed that the announcement of the WFH day would not extend beyond March. “Soon, there are only a few days left in this month anyway. So there is still time,” said Airlangga. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has not spoken much about WFH. Purbaya said that Prabowo is continuously monitoring the developments of the WFH day discussion. “WFH is already set, as the President is monitoring it directly like that. This will be announced shortly by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy,” he said. Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR, Aria Bima, previously viewed the policy of one day WFH per week as good for energy savings. However, he saw the policy as only short-term and should not be made the sole solution. “This idea can be considered good as a short-term tactical step, but it should not be treated as the single solution to the problem of high oil prices,” said Aria Bima when contacted on Friday (27/3). The PDIP legislator understands that the government is currently examining a flexible work scheme of one day in five working days for civil servants, the private sector, and regional governments as a response to the surge in world oil prices. At the same time, he said, the oil price condition is indeed experiencing sharp fluctuations due to the war initiated by the US and Israel against Iran.
