While visiting the victims at Dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Regional Hospital in Bekasi City, on Wednesday (April 29), he vowed to fulfill victims’ compensation rights along with coordination in post-incident infrastructure repairs.

“I saw the swift action taken by this hospital, and then I’m ensuring the rehabilitation and post-disaster recovery systems for these victims, including their care,” Abdurachman said in a statement on Thursday.

Besides providing medical care, the government is also facilitating the disbursement of victims’ compensation rights through coordination with various stakeholders, including BPJS, PT KAI, and Jasa Raharja Putera Insurance.

Abdurachman emphasized the importance of synergistic communication between ministries and institutions to ensure a unified process for handling victims.

His office is also encouraging follow-up actions in the form of evaluations and improvements to transportation infrastructure in West Java, which will be coordinated with relevant ministries and the state-owned railway company, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI).

Regarding the potential presence of illegal level crossings that may pose risks to train safety, he said the government will carry out a comprehensive inspection before proceeding with further measures.

“We will conduct a comprehensive inspection, so if such issues arise, we will certainly communicate with security officials,” he explained.

On Monday (April 27), a train collision between the Cikarang Commuter Line and the Argo Bromo Anggrek resulted in 16 deaths and 91 injuries at Bekasi Timur Station.

The Ministry of Transportation revealed that the initial chronology of the accident is suspected to have begun when the Bekasi-Cikarang KRL collided with a car at the JPL 85 level crossing, triggering the incident.

As a result, officers stopped another train, PLB 5568, heading to Cikarang at Bekasi Timur Station. However, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train, traveling from Jakarta to Surabaya, failed to stop completely and collided with the stopped train.
