Through national talent management, the government is building the national music ecosystem, particularly for young people engaged in both traditional and contemporary music, Culture Minister Fadli Zon stated.

The minister made the statement while attending the peak celebration of National Music Day 2026 held at the Banten Provincial Government Building in Serang on Monday evening.

“Through national talent management, we are building our music ecosystem, especially for young people, whether they are engaged in traditional or contemporary music,” said Menbud Fadli Zon.

The government is committed to facilitating young musicians, from community arts studios to international stages.

However, the minister noted that traditional music requires stronger government affirmation compared to contemporary music, which already has an established industry platform.

During the event, the minister also emphasised the importance of cross-sector collaboration between the central government, provinces, districts/cities, and cultural figures and artists to ensure the sustainability of this ecosystem.

National Music Day, observed annually on 9 March, coincides with the birthday of national hero and great composer W.R. Supratman. This momentum is expected to inspire the younger generation to continue producing works that can serve as Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy or soft power on the global stage.
