Jakarta — The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has commended Astra’s support in strengthening healthcare services for communities in disaster-affected areas across Sumatra.

“Collaboration of this nature is crucial to ensure healthcare facilities in the regions can continue providing rapid and adequate services to the public, particularly during post-disaster recovery,” said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

As part of disaster recovery efforts for communities affected by flash flooding and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, Astra through its corporate foundation Nurani Astra handed over 156 units of medical equipment and 20 ambulances to the Ministry of Health at the Health Ministry building in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March.

The handover represents a continuation of Astra’s humanitarian support for communities affected by the disaster in the Sumatra region and is expected to strengthen healthcare services whilst providing direct benefits to residents across the three provinces.

During the symbolic handover ceremony, the Health Minister witnessed the transfer of ambulances and medical equipment from Astra Director Hamdhani Dzulkarnaen Salim, alongside representatives of receiving hospitals, with attendance from the Minister of Interior Affairs and Head of the Task Force for Accelerated Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Post-Disaster Sumatra Muhammad Tito Karnavian, and Astra’s Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.

“Through Nurani Astra, we endeavour to be present and contribute in assisting communities undergoing post-disaster recovery. The distribution of these ambulances and medical equipment is expected to strengthen healthcare services in affected areas, enabling the public to access medical assistance more quickly and effectively,” said Boy.

The additional support has been delivered through the distribution of 20 ambulances equipped for primary health centre (Puskesmas) transport, distributed to various affected regions. Sixteen ambulances were allocated to health centres in Aceh, one to a regional hospital in Aceh, and one each to health centres in Central Tapanuli, the Medan City regional hospital, and the Padang Pariaman City health centre.

Since December 2025, Astra has also conducted inspections and repairs on 126 ambulances distributed across affected areas, encompassing four locations in Aceh, 17 in North Sumatra, and 10 in West Sumatra, as part of efforts to ensure healthcare service readiness for the public.

Additionally, Astra through Astra Otoparts has distributed 156 units of medical equipment to support enhanced healthcare services in affected areas. The assistance comprises 122 units of medical equipment delivered to eight regional hospitals in Aceh and 34 units of medical equipment handed over to the Medan Medical Device and Facility Safety Centre.

The Task Force Head Muhammad Tito Karnavian previously stated that healthcare services have resumed operations in the three affected provincial areas of Sumatra. He expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of the task force, ministries, agencies, regional governments at provincial, district and municipal levels, and all non-governmental organisations involved in the recovery efforts.
