Government Allocates Rp7.4 Trillion for Permanent Disaster Housing in Sumatra
JAKARTA — Government allocates Rp7.4 trillion for permanent disaster housing in Sumatra. The programme is targeted for completion by 2027 to prevent residents from staying in temporary shelters for too long, according to Minister of Home Affairs and Chair of the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas), Tito Karnavian, during a press conference at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 25 May 2026.
“We hope the Rp7.4 trillion allocation for permanent housing from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) over two years will be completed by 2027 at the latest to prevent prolonged stays in temporary shelters,” Tito said.
He explained that the budget has been approved by the government and supported by the DPR RI Task Force, represented by DPR Vice Chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.
“The total budget we proposed has been thankfully approved by the government, and we reported it to the DPR RI Task Force represented by Prof. Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who also extended support. The amount totals Rp100.166 trillion over three years,” he said.
The breakdown of the rehabilitation and reconstruction budget is Rp38.9 trillion in 2026, Rp32.9 trillion in 2027, and Rp28.2 trillion in 2028.
Beyond permanent housing construction, the largest portion of the budget is allocated for infrastructure repairs through the Ministry of Public Works (PU), totalling approximately Rp69 trillion over three years.
Tito added that the government will accelerate administrative processes and programme implementation after ministries and agencies submit supporting documents and work timelines by early June 2026.
“We will conduct bi-weekly evaluations by the government task force, and then we will report progress to the DPR accordingly,” he concluded.
