Government Allocates Rp100 Trillion for Sumatra Reconstruction, Task Force to Conduct Biweekly Evaluations
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The government has approved a budget allocation of Rp 100.1 trillion for the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction program in Sumatra over the next three years. The budget will be used for infrastructure development, permanent housing, and other recovery needs from 2026 to 2028. Home Affairs Minister and Chairman of the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas), Tito Karnavian, said the total budget has been approved by the government and received support from the DPR RI Task Force. “The total budget we proposed has been approved by the government, and we reported it to the DPR RI Task Force represented by Professor Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who also supported it, amounting to Rp 100.166 trillion over three years,” Tito said during a press conference at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (25/5/2026). He explained that for 2026, the government has allocated Rp 38.9 trillion, followed by Rp 32.9 trillion in 2027 and Rp 28.2 trillion in 2028. According to Tito, the largest portion of the budget is allocated for infrastructure development through the Ministry of Public Works (PU), totaling around Rp 69 trillion over three years. Additionally, the government has allocated Rp 7.4 trillion for permanent housing (huntap) through the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) over two years. “We hope that the permanent housing from the PKP Ministry’s Rp 7.4 trillion budget over two years will be completed by 2027 at the latest, so we don’t stay in temporary housing too long,” Tito said. He added that Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadwa has confirmed the availability of Rp 38 trillion for 2026. Subsequently, each ministry and agency is required to promptly submit supporting documents and develop implementation timelines. “Professor Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stressed that each ministry/agency must submit timelines to us by early June 2026, after which the government task force will conduct biweekly evaluations,” Tito said. He assured that the progress of rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts would be regularly reported to the DPR RI.
