Government Allocates Rp100 Trillion for Permanent Disaster Recovery in Sumatra
Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian announced the government has approved a budget of Rp100.16 trillion for permanent disaster recovery in Sumatra. Tito, who is also the Chair of the Accelerated Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Task Force (PRR) for the Sumatra disaster region, stated the recovery is targeted to be completed within three years. “The total budget we proposed has been approved at the government level, and we reported to the House of Representatives PRR Task Force chaired by Professor Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, which also supported it, amounting to Rp100.166 trillion over three years,” Tito said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday (25/5). He detailed that the budget will be allocated annually: Rp38.9 trillion in 2026, Rp32.9 trillion in 2027, and Rp28.2 trillion in 2028. Tito explained the total Rp100.166 trillion will be distributed among ministries and agencies involved in Sumatra’s disaster recovery. “The largest share is infrastructure, under the Ministry of Public Works, totalling approximately Rp69 trillion over three years, with Rp22 trillion this year. Additionally, permanent housing (huntap) from the Ministry of Housing amounts to Rp7.4 trillion over two years,” he said. Tito stated the government sets annual work priorities. This year’s priorities include infrastructure, roads, schools, and other projects. “Permanent housing is prioritised to avoid prolonged stays in temporary shelters. Next year’s second priority will cover other projects, with the final priority, such as river works at their final stages, scheduled for 2027,” he added.
