Government allocates Rp100.16 trillion for Sumatra recovery efforts. Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that permanent rehabilitation of three affected provinces—West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh—is targeted for completion within three years. Tito, who chairs the Special Task Force for Accelerated Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of the Sumatra Disaster, confirmed the budget has been approved by the government and House of Representatives (DPR). “The total budget we proposed has been approved at government level, and we reported it to the DPR Task Force led by Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. We’re grateful for the support, amounting to Rp100.166 trillion over three years,” Tito said during a coordination meeting at the DPR/MPR Complex in Jakarta on Monday, 25 May 2026. Former Indonesian National Police Chief Tito detailed the annual breakdown until 2028: Rp38.9 trillion for 2026, Rp32.9 trillion for 2027, and Rp28.2 trillion for 2028. “The total is approximately Rp100.1 trillion. This is the allocated budget, distributed across ministries and agencies,” he said. According to Tito, the largest portion is allocated for infrastructure development via the Ministry of Public Works (PU), totalling around Rp69 trillion over three years, with Rp22 trillion this year. Additionally, the government has allocated Rp7.4 trillion over two years for permanent housing (huntap) through the Ministry of Housing and Settlement. “We aim to complete huntap by no later than 2027,” Tito said. Tito added that the Ministry of Finance has confirmed readiness of the 2026 budget of Rp38 trillion. All relevant ministries and agencies have been instructed to submit supporting documents. Tito stressed that DPR Deputy Chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who chaired the coordination meeting, emphasised each ministry and agency must provide a timeline for submission to the task force by early June. “We will then conduct biweekly evaluations,” he said. Disaster recovery progress will be regularly reported to the DPR.
