Google introduced its new laptop series, named Googlebook, on Tuesday (12 May 2026). This laptop boasts superior performance, functionality, and features by combining the ChromeOS and Android operating systems into one. According to Google’s Senior Director for Laptops and Tablets, Alex Kusher, the Googlebook comes with high-performance applications and a modern operating system. The Googlebook offers a slightly different approach from the company’s Chromebook laptops. While Chromebooks integrate with Android smartphones, the Googlebook is claimed to feature a new operating system that bridges the gap in accessing various Windows applications. “The Googlebook is the first laptop designed from the ground up to access Gemini Intelligence, delivering a personal and proactive approach to assisting users anytime and anywhere,” said Alex. With this approach, users can access and utilise various features more easily, such as Google DeepMind, request help from Gemini AI for simple tasks, customise the screen, and much more. Google offers smoother transitions between Android devices (smartphones/tablets) and the Googlebook laptop. Users can also receive reminder notifications from specific applications and open them directly from the laptop if the smartphone is out of reach. Regarding its body, the Googlebook is designed to be compact and minimalist. On the back, there will be a unique light bar (glow bar) with a gradient of blue, green, yellow, and orange colours, characteristic of Google. However, Google has not yet officially revealed the full technical specifications of the Googlebook, such as the processor, RAM capacity, storage, screen size, battery capacity, and so on. “Every Googlebook is designed with expertise and premium materials. Available in various shapes and sizes,” Alex concluded. As gathered by KompasTekno from ZDNET, Google’s new laptop strategy could rival the MacBook Neo if priced affordably. One advantage of the MacBook Neo is the iPhone Mirroring feature, which allows users to access their iPhone without opening the smartphone’s screen. A similar approach is offered by the Googlebook through integration with Android. Essentially, the main idea of the Googlebook is to provide an Android access experience in laptop form. Nevertheless, Google has not disclosed further details on specifications, pricing, and availability of the laptop. So, stay tuned.
