Golkar's Doli Explains Heated Debate on Oil and Gas Bill at Prolegnas Meeting
Deputy Chairman of the DPR Legislation Body, Ahmad Doli Kurnia, provided an explanation regarding the heated debate that occurred when the DPR Legislation Body discussed the evaluation of the 2026 Prolegnas. Doli stated that such debates are commonplace. “Having different opinions, views, and debating something is just normal in our lives. Especially in our democracy,” Doli said when contacted on Thursday (16/4/2026). Doli explained that the debate yesterday occurred during a working meeting of the DPR Legislation Body with the government, represented by Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif. That meeting, according to him, discussed the evaluation of the 2026 Prolegnas. “In that meeting, the discussion emerged regarding the process of including a bill in the Prolegnas list, which should go through mechanisms of meetings, starting from internal meetings of each DPR working body, the Legislative Body meeting, up to the DPR leadership meeting,” he said. In addition, Doli mentioned that yesterday’s meeting discussed several laws that need to be prioritised. “The meeting also discussed which laws need to be prioritised for inclusion in this year’s Prolegnas list,” he stated. He acknowledged that the meeting was sometimes intense. However, according to him, the meeting remained productive. “So even though it was intense, yesterday’s discussion was good and quite productive, because all of us present share the same goal, namely to present regulations (laws) and policies that are the best for the interests of the state, nation, and Indonesian people,” he said. As is known, the working meeting of the House of Representatives Legislation Body with Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej discussing the evaluation of the 2026 Priority Bill Prolegnas became heated. Leaders and members of the DPR Legislation Body from the Golkar Faction en masse requested that the Oil and Gas Bill be dropped in that meeting. This debate occurred in the working meeting at the DPR Legislation Body, House of Representatives, Wednesday (15/4) night, when the meeting was nearly concluding. Deputy Minister Edward Omar asked about the status of the Oil and Gas Bill. “Regarding the Oil and Gas Bill, let’s pending it for now, should it be noted?” said Deputy Minister Edward. After Edward’s statement, the meeting immediately heated up. Members of the DPR Legislation Body exchanged arguments regarding the Oil and Gas Bill.
