The Chairman of the Golkar Party faction in the House of Representatives (DPR), Muhammad Sarmuji, has proposed that the work-from-home (WFH) policy, implemented for one day per week, be applied selectively and with full consideration. Previously, the government planned to introduce WFH for employees to save energy.

According to Sarmuji, the WFH policy must account for the potential disruption to national productivity and public services. “There is potential for a decline in productivity and services,” Sarmuji told Tempo on Monday, 23 March 2026.

This member of Commission VI of the DPR suggested that the WFH policy should not be imposed on all sectors. He also proposed that the government regulate the mobilisation of civil servants (ASN) and private sector employees. Do not let it happen that during WFH, employees still travel using private vehicles that consume fuel supplies, he said.

The government plans to implement the work-from-home policy after Eid. The Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that the policy applies to ASN. The government also encourages private companies to adopt it.

The State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, said that WFH will only apply to certain sectors. The government is still studying the implementation plan for the policy.

Prasetyo explained that several vital sectors, such as public services, industry, and trade, must continue to operate normally. “To avoid misunderstanding, the public services, industry, and trade sectors are likely not included in this policy,” Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
