Golf Course in Senayan Area Could Be Converted into Green Open Space
Guru Besar Ilmu Sosiologi Hukum and public policy observer from Trisakti University’s Faculty of Law, Trubus Rahardiansah, has proposed that state assets in the Senayan area be optimised for public interest, including supporting the addition of green open spaces (RTH) in Jakarta. According to Trubus, the idea aligns with the government’s ongoing plan to reorganise the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex after resolving issues regarding the use of several state assets in the area, including those currently used as a golf course under the management of a private company where a senior figure is a leader of an advocacy organisation. “So this senior figure of the advocacy organisation must be willing to let it go, sincerely, because it is a state asset,” Trubus said on Tuesday (23/6). He assessed that the need for green open space in Jakarta remains a challenge requiring attention. Therefore, various state assets that can be optimised should be considered as part of efforts to expand public spaces and green areas. “Currently, Mr Pramono Anung is launching a green open space programme. So, in my opinion, it would be better to turn that golf course into green open space. Because now, Jakarta is struggling to find locations for RTH,” he added. Trubus emphasised that the takeover of the Senayan golf course, allegedly linked to a senior figure in an advocacy organisation, to become green open space could serve as an entry point for reorganising state assets controlled by private entities. “The history is long. And now, with this, it can become an entry point for managing state assets,” Trubus concluded. Previously, several academics and members of the House of Representatives encouraged the government to evaluate the use of various state assets in the Senayan area to provide greater benefits for the public. This push emerged after the government executed the takeover of the land and building of the former Hotel Sultan in Block 15 of the Gelora Bung Karno complex. Deputy Minister of State Secretariat Bambang Eko Suhariyanto asserted that every state asset must be utilised to the greatest extent for the prosperity and welfare of the people. “This asset must be utilised as much as possible for the prosperity and welfare of the people,” Bambang stated. He explained that the government has a vested interest in ensuring state assets are under proper management and used for public benefit. He noted that the land of the former Hotel Sultan is a state asset acquired by the government between 1959 and 1962 to support the hosting of the Asian Games IV in Jakarta.
