Thousands of Gojek driver partners simultaneously carried out mosque-cleaning activities across various cities throughout Indonesia during Ramadan. The initiative represents both a form of social participation by the driver community and set a Museum Rekor Indonesia (MURI) record for the largest mosque-cleaning action by online motorcycle taxi drivers.

A total of 1,147 Gojek driver partners cleaned 147 mosques across 14 Indonesian cities in a single day. The action involved the driver community, who voluntarily initiated the activity as a contribution towards maintaining places of worship amid increased community activity during Ramadan.

One Gojek driver partner, Anshori, explained that the initiative originated from discussions within the driver community who wanted to conduct meaningful activities during Ramadan. “We discussed among ourselves in the community. The idea came up to distribute iftar meals and then to perform worship. After sharing ideas, friends from the field suggested we clean the mosques,” Anshori said following the activity at Al Ibadah Mosque in Kemang, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (11 March).

According to him, mosques were selected as the focus because they serve as centres of community worship, particularly during Ramadan. “Our intention was to ensure the mosques are clean during this holy month of Ramadan so that prayers and worship can be carried out comfortably and peacefully. From there we shared the idea with other friends and the response was extremely positive,” he added.

During the activity, driver partners performed various cleaning tasks, including sweeping mosque courtyards, cleaning carpets, washing windows, and sanitising ablution facilities and toilets. Female partners also participated by organising prayer garments such as headscarves and prayer mats so that worshippers could pray more comfortably.

In addition to the mosque-cleaning activity, the partners also distributed iftar provisions to the surrounding community at the activity locations before sharing a meal to break the fast together.

Head of Driver Operations at Gojek, Bambang Adi Wirawan, stated that the company supports positive initiatives emerging from the driver community, particularly activities that provide direct benefits to society. “What matters most to us is not merely the scale, but the spirit that emerges from the partners themselves. Our role is to ensure that this spirit can be properly facilitated and create wider impact,” he said.

The mosque-cleaning initiative was carried out in several cities, including Jakarta, Bandung, Malang, Palembang, Semarang, Solo, and several other cities across Indonesia.
